Stocks crumple amid investor cautiousness

Benchmark VN-Index extended its losing streak to four consecutive trading sessions on October 3 as investors sold off shares to avert risks amid growing uncertainties.
The index of 296 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange tumbled 1.28 percent, or 5.48 points, to close at 422.12 points. It slid 2.88 percent last week, rose 2 percent last month but shed 1.14 percent last quarter.

Among the benchmark members, 48 climbed, 184 dropped, while 69 remained unchanged.
Trading on the city bourse fell by 14 percent in volume and 51 percent in value over the previous day as 29.52 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND395 billion.
Saigon Thuong Tin Joint Stock Commercial Bank or Sacombank (STB) was the most active share by volume with 1.37 million shares changing hands.
Hoang Quan Consulting – Trading – Service Real Estate Corporation (HQC) followed with 1.28 million shares traded.
Sacom Development & Investment Corporation (SAM) ranked third with 1.21 million shares.
Viky Plastic Joint Stock Company (VKP) slashed 6.67 percent to close at VND1,400.
Other losers on the city bourse included Nam Viet Corporation (ANV), Bac Giang Exploitable Mineral Joint Stock Company (BGM), and Construction & Materials Trading Joint Stock Company (CNT).
Basa Joint Stock Company (BAS) rebounded 5.56 percent to VND1,900.
Materials – Petroleum Joint Stock Company (COM), and Dam Sen Water Park Corporation (DSN) both emerged 4.98 to VND33,700, and VND23,200 respectively.
Vinpearl Joint Stock Company (VPL) strengthened 4.94 percent to VND85,000.
Meanwhile, the Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north slumped 1.35 percent, or 0.96 points, to finish at 70.38 points. Around 37 million shares changed hands at a value of VND363.47 billion.
The UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares jumped 1.37 percent, or 0.42 points, to 31.12 points. A total of 144,400 shares changed hands at a value of VND939 million at 2:15 pm local time.
